About David L. Adams

David L. Adams served as the director of student media at the IU School of Journalism from 1989 to 2007 devoting his life to IU student journalism for nearly two decades. During his tenure, the Indiana Daily Student (IDS) won the top award for overall excellence from the Society of Professional Journalists in 1998, 2004, and 2005, and the Arbutus was selected as Best Large Yearbook by the College Media Advisers in 2007. Adams, an advocate for First Amendment rights of student journalists, was inducted in the College Media Advisers Hall of Fame in 1997. He was a leader in the Student Press Law Center in Washington, D.C. and a faculty adviser in the Indiana Collegiate Press Association.

Adams passed away on June 2, 2007.
