About Bill Woolsey
William Tripp "Bill" Woolsey was born on September 13, 1934 in Honolulu, Hawaii and is a former American swimmer. Woolsey was Indiana University's first Olympian in the sport of swimming. He represented the United States at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, where he won a gold medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay with Wayne Moore, Ford Konno, and James McLane. Woolsey also competed in the 1500-meter freestyle at the 1952 Games. Four years later, at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, he won a silver medal as part of the 800 free relay. He also swam in the 100 free, taking sixth and the 400 free. An eight-time All-America selection, Woolsey also won two NCAA championships each in both the 220- and 440-yard freestyle.
